A Fresh Start

Who can believe today is August 1??  Time really does travel much faster the older I get. This July has been a little too busy for my liking.  Nothing major, but a few too many of life's little annoyances is enough for me to let my priorities slip a bit. It shows up clear as a bell when I look at the last time I posted on my blog.  I love having this little part of the blogging world where I connect with others via my passions of crafting, mixed and social media.
So a new month is just what I needed for a fresh start. Thank you for your loyal following.
So here are a couple cards I put together the other night.  The top one is paper designed by Teresa Collins and the bottom is Graphic 45. The inking and paper are of course CTMH.
Happy craftin'.

Praying in Color

Several months ago a dear a friend told me about a "new way to pray" intoducing to me  the book Praying in Color.  You can view the book here on Amazon here   I  envisioned lit candles and sitting in a position with legs crossed and a straight back. The lit candle idea sounded good to me -- but the idea of contorting my body into an uncomfortable position didn't go over so well. Then she said a few words that sounded angelic. This prayer form involves using markers, watercolor pencils and any other art medium. Now that had my attention.  I fell in love with the idea of lifting my family, friends' concerns, etc using my art as well as my heart.

After talking with my friend and looking through the book, we realized this book is perfect for anybody.  It's all inclusive.  If the idea of prayer is not for you, in no way will that minimize the actual practicing of praying in color because you can call it "whatever..."  Thinking of you .... my dream page ... goal setting... the possibilities are endless.
The objective is to use your doodles, line drawings, whatever it is you love as a way to express what's really going on in your heart -- what's really going on INSIDE.
Here is a Gratitude page from my smashbook, the perfect place for me to play with color -- I mean pray.
Check your local library for this gem of a book.

Anniversary Canvas

Being a wife and mother striving to put "family first" I practice, as St. Teresa said, "doing small things with great love" (the quote is something like that).  This year for my wedding anniversary I decided to create a "big card to show big love"  rather than the normal  card.  And rather than paper I created my sentiments on canvas.  My husband is so proud of anything  I create that I knew  this Mixed-Media card made especially for him would make him feel especially thought of and loved on our special day.
I made this using a 12x7 piece of canvas purchased at the SCRAPBOOK EXPO in GA this past weekend (holla....).  I attended a class in Mixed Media at this event and was all jazzed up afterwards  to try out new products and techniques.

I had so much fun doing this, but I admit it took much longer than it might appear.  I used gesso on the canvas and then inked it up.  Using Faber-Castell gelatos I did some stenciling.  Once that dried I placed and glued down the three tags I had made separately.  The key in the middle came from a swap I participated in last year and I wish I could find the name of the person who created it for me.  That key is so pretty I saved it for a very special occassion.  The other fun things are things I either bought at Archivers as part of my girl's weekend or had in my stash!!
Very grateful to Susie (my partner in all things fun) for her help in the placement of everything.  Susie creates amazing projects.  So amazing that she's being PUBLISHED.  Watch for her project in the September issue of Cricut magazine.  Susie "lives" here
Thanks for lookin' and happy craftin'
